Last day of the World Championship was sunny at last, the weather was hot and the wind blew from south south-east directions.

Two races were completed and the final results for the medalists are as follows:

    The 4th Racing day started with a lot of rain and no wind, that’s why the flag of postponement raised till 13:00 that the wind started to be enough for the boat to compete. The first start was given to the Skud 18 class at 14:15 with southeast wind direction and no more than 10 knots. The Sonar and the 2.4mR started at 17:30 and they also managed to finished only one race.

    After 7 races the results in Skud 18 are as followed

    The third racing day was a long one.
    It was raining strongly from early morning till one o’clock, when suddenly the sun appeared and the wind started to blow from west.
    Sonar sailed their 4th race of the regatta, first of the day at 15:26, Skud18 followed at 15:33 for their 5th race and finally 2.4mR at 15:54 for their 4th race.
    Even though the weather wasn’t very stable with moments of sun and other with clouds a second race for the 3 classes was managed to finish.
    The Sonar and the Skud finished their second race of the day normally, but as the wind started to decrease the 2.4mR finished in a shorter course.
    Ashore there were a lot of protests that will probably change the provisional results.
    For Saturday the scheduled start is at 11:00

    The weather was rainy at the second day of races of the IFDS World Championship, temperature dropped at 19oC, wind direction turned to North directions 10o and later 5o and wind speed was approximately at 10knots.
    Races started at 11:30 as scheduled, SONAR took the first start of the day and SKUD18 and 2.4mR followed. Three races were accomplished for SKUD18 and two for SONAR’s and 2.4mR, the third race of the day was abandoned for those classes due to lack of air.

    14 October 2009
    First day of the races for the World Championship and the first start was given to the SKUD18 for an outer loop at 12:00 as scheduled with wind speed at 9 knots and wind direction from 285o. SONAR’s took their first start at 12:10 and the 2.4mR at 12:24 having the same wind conditions.

    After the finish of all three classes due to swifts of the wind at 13:39 the Race Committee hoisted AP.

    At SKUD18 at the first race first finished SCOTT WHITTMAN, JULIA DORSETT from USA, second ALEXANDRA RICKHAM, NIKI BIRRELL from Great Britain and third JOHN McROBERTS, BRENDA HOPKIN from Canada.

    At 2.4mR at the first race first finished THERY SCHMITTER from Netherlands, second HELENA LUCAS from Great Britain and third GEORGE DELIKOURAS from Greece.

    At SONAR’s at the first race first finished ALEKSANDER WANG-HANSEN, MARIE SOLBERG, PER EUGEN KRISTIANSEN from Norway, second KROKER JENS, MAINKA SIGGY, PREM ROBERT from Germany and third ALPHONSUS DOERR, MAUREEN McKINNON-TUCKER, BRAD KENDALL from USA.

    At 13:45 R.C gave the first start for the second race for the SONAR’s with wind direction at 280o and wind speed at 7 knots, 2.4mR took start at 14:05 but unfortunately at 14:20 they had to hoist “N” because of the big change of the wind direction and the drop of the wind speed.

    Sailors waited until 15:23 where they were sent ashore when Race Committee hoisted “AP” over “A”. When sailors reached the dock spaghetti was ready to be served from the Organisers as it was promised.




    13 October 2009
    Last day of the measurement – classification – registration and last team to register was the Polish Sonar team, which arrived yesterday late at night.
    Final entries for the Worlds are as follows:
  • 26 - 2.4mR,
  • 12 - Sonar and
  • 4 - SKUD18
    from 16countries.
    IFDS’s sailors forum took place today at 10:00 were the sailors discussed problems they are dealing, with the executive committee.
    The skippers meeting took place just after the forum where they had their chance to discuss any issues with the PRO of the regatta.
    The strong north west wind that was blowing from early this morning and the rain prevented the Race Committee from doing the Practice Race as scheduled.
    Tomorrow the first race has been scheduled at 12:00 in the morning. Shuttle bus’s accessible to wheelchair users have been scheduled to start from early in the morning in order to bring the sailors to the venue by 09:30 to prepare for the first day of races.

    Registration, Classification and Measurement were continued today with 26 athletes in 2.4mR, 10 Sonar and 4 Skud 18.
    Most of the Boats were fixing the last details in their boats and others chose to sail in the Saronic Gulf in order to be ready for the Practice Race that will take place tomorrow.
    The last boats will register tomorrow from 9:00-12:00.

    A pleasant surprise was expecting the volunteers and the members of the Organizing Committee as the Prime Minister of Greece Mr. George Papandreou visited the Marina Delta Falirou and the Olympic Properties, giving the promise that he will try to visit us again in one of the racing days.

    The Opening Ceremony has been scheduled today at 20:00 at the Venue (3) where the Organizing Committee will welcome the athletes from 15 countries.



    11 October 2009
    Registration Classification and Measurement has started today as scheduled.
    Organizers and volunteers were at their posts from 08:30.
    Sailors started registering from 09:00 according to the Notice of Race.
    The weather was sunny, the wind from South directions about 10knots and the temperature at about 27 oC.
    So far have been registered 14 sailors at 2.4mR, 8 SONAR and 3 SKUD18 crews.
    Sailors that have completed classification and measurement went sailing for practice, the rest of the sailors were preparing their sailing equipment.

    Hot and sunny was the last day of the pre-regatta race that finished today with 2 more races. The southwest winds changed the conditions of the sea, for the athletes that have used the north wind, the two previous days. The British athlete Helena Lucas was the absolute winner of the day by wining both races. Although after 7 races, winner of the Pre-regatta race is the British athlete Megan Pascoe with 1 penalty point difference from the second, Helena Lucas. In the third place finished the Greek athlete George Delikouras.
    Tomorrow Saturday 10 of October from 9:00-18:00, a Classification Seminar will take place in the Venue Plan (4) of the World Championship.
    On Sunday 11 of October will officially start the Championship with Measurement, Classification, and Registration from 09:00-14:00 & 15:00- 18:00.

    08 October 2009
    Three more races finished today with the help of the mistral wind in the pre-regatta race. Although the small number of the boats the competition was good and the athletes had to be very careful with the changes of the wind in order to win the race.
    The Greek athlete Nikolaos Efstasiadis managed to win the first race of the day after a very clever strategy. The two next races were wined by the English athlete Megan Pascoe who is also first in the overall results after 5 races.
    In the second place is the Greek athlete George Delikouras.

    The north winds with a lot of shifts in the wind speed helped the athletes of 2.4mR to finished 2 races in the pre-regatta race that started today at 12:00.
    The races of this regatta give the opportunity to the foreign athletes to learn about the particularities of the wind and the waters in the Saronic Golf.
    In the first place after the 2 races is the Greek athlete George Delikouras, and follow the 2 English women athletes, Megan Pascoe in the second place and Helena Lucas in the third place.

    The Press Conference of the World Championship took place today at 12:00 with a lot of journalists from all the media, the Greek Paraolympic athletes, the English sailors Helena Lucas and Megan Pascoe, and the channel Sport TV. The Organize Committee, the Event Manager Mrs. Niki Anastasiou and the President of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, Mr. Antonis Dimitrakopoulos answered to all the questions and gave information about the championship that will start on Sunday 11 October 2009. The President of The Hellenic Paraolympic Committee, Mr Panagiotis Stamatopoulos also saluted the athletes and wished good luck to all the participants.

    Tomorrow at 12:00 will be the first start of the pre regatta race only for the 2.4 mR single handed boats. The pre regatta race will finish on Friday 9 of October.

    The venue of the World Championship opened today and the Organize Committee is ready to welcome the athletes, the coaches and the boats of the 18 nations that are going to participate. Athletes from Norway, Great Britain and Israel have already arrived and during the day more are expected. The 2.4 mR single handed boats will have the opportunity to test the waters as a practice Race has been programmed from 7-9 of October. The registration will start tomorrow from 10:00 till 14:30.

    • The Hellenic Sailing Federation with cooperation with the sailing clubs SEANATK, SIP-OTE, NONKE, IOP DEI and YCG are ready to start the important event of IFDS Disabled World Championship on Tuesday 6 October 2009 by giving a Press Conference in the event venue, Marina Delta Falirou.
      More than 150 athletes and coaches from 18 countries have already been registered, and are expected from 5 of October in Greece. The countries which will participate are: Armenia, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Holland, Norway, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, USA , France, Italy , Puerto- Rico and Greece.
